Team Hachisuno from SeDidik Sarawak won first place at the Creative and Innovative Group (KIK) Convention 2026, organised by the Sarawak Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development. The convention took place on 28 and 29 April 2026 at the Penview Convention Centre, Kuching, under the theme “Inovasi Memacu Impian” (Innovation Drives Dreams).
Ten teams took part, from the ministry, SeDidik Sarawak, the Sarawak Women and Family Department and the Sarawak Social Welfare Department. Led by Suziana Mohammad Ajol, Team Hachisuno presented a project on inefficient food waste disposal at our centres. They received RM2,500, a trophy and a certificate of appreciation, presented by Yang Berhormat Datuk Hajah Rosey binti Haji Yunus.
Their innovation is the compost cube: food waste from our centres is turned into compost in cube form, which is more practical and easier to handle. It is made entirely from food waste at no cost, and is used in TASKA and TADIKA gardens, where children grow vegetables and fruit.
The compost cube is currently used within SeDidik, and has the potential to expand to other institutions in Sarawak, including kindergartens, childcare centres, welfare homes and rehabilitation centres.
